Equipment:
All classrooms at South High are equipped with a computer, projector and a SMART Board. All department offices have access to laser printers and a color laser printer available in the AV room. Laptops, iPads, digital cameras, digital video cameras, document readers, DVD players, VCRs, TVs, AppleTVs and Quizdom - our audience response system and the video conferencing unit are all available for use and can be checked out through our Library/AV department. All copy machines are equipped with a scanner that can scan documents and send them to your email account in PDF format.
South High also has a wireless VLAN set up. Staff can access the VLAN throughout the building by using their PC log in once they are added to the wireless group. Staff must sign and submit the Wireless VLAN authorization form in order to be added to the wireless group.

- GNPS Network: 8GB home directory - each teacher has a home directory, or H-drive available to them for use when they log on to our Windows network. In addition, there are two shared drives available; the T-drive and the M-drive. The T-drive is read only to both staff and students and the M-drive is read only to staff. To log into your PC network account you will type your first initial of first name, first four letters of last name and four digit birth date and a password.
- Teacher web sites: are used to post information about the course, notes, handouts and any information about the class. Students can catch up on any missed work by visiting the teacher’s web site to download SMART Board notes, handouts and get homework information. Students also email teachers with questions and when help is needed.

- Google Apps for Education: GNPS has adopted Google Apps for Education as an integraded productivity, communication, and collaboration solution for our instructional program. Google Apps for Educationprovides a hosted solution with 30GB of storage space for Google Apps including Docs, Drive, Forms, Calendar, Sheets, and Slides. The services/data are hosted and encrypted by Google but managed/controlled by the school.
- Student E-mail: GNPS issues high school student e-mail accouts to facilitate student work, peer collaboration, student-teacher communication, professional outreach, and college readiness through Google Apps for Education.
- My Learning Plan: This is our Professional Development Management system. All conference and workshop requests, as well as in-service and credit courses are done through this system. A comprehensive list of professional development courses is also available here. Staff can view a summary of their current and recently completed learning experiences on the Learning Plan screen or view detailed records of all completed activities in their Portfolio. Portfolio views enable users to view completed activities by district-defined purposes, such as those learning experiences that were completed towards re certification or licensure.
- Infinite Campus: This is our student information service. All student records, grades, schedules, and relevant academic and non-academic information can be found here. Teachers have access to the records of their current students only. There are Infinite Campus instructional guides available to assist you.
- Infinite Campus Parent Portal: Campus Portal is our tool for parents to access instant, online, timely and secure student information: class schedule, assignments, attendance, discipline, course registrations for next year, report cards and transcripts. Campus Portal is a means to further promote educational excellence by enhancing our program of communication with parents and students. All student records, grades, schedules, and relevant academic and non-academic information can be found here. Parents can find instant access to accurate, current and confidential information about their child(ren)'s school attendance, grades, class assignments and more!
- Infinite Campus Student Portal: Campus Portal is our tool for students to access instant, online, timely and secure student information: class schedule, assignments, attendance, discipline, course registrations for next year, report cards and transcripts. - Infinite Campus Gradebook: IC Grade Book gives teachers secure Internet access to all grading tasks, and when published by the teacher, grades are immediately available to school administrators.
- Some key features to IC Grade Book include:
- Calculate grades using multiple options
- Calendar to list assignments and activities in student portal
- Use numeric and alphanumeric scores for the same assignment
- Drop the lowest score in an assignment category
- Weight assignments individually
- Group grading items into categories such as quizzes, tests and assignments, or associate standards with rubrics
- Track un scored activities like field trips
- Add, edit, comment, fill in mass or override grades
- Some key features to IC Grade Book include:
- WinCapWeb: This is our online human resources manager. Use this site to access your earnings records, leaves, benefits and other personal data.
- WebMail: This is our electronic communication system. South High used e-mail to communicate with Faculty. Please check e-mail daily for important messages. All GNPS staff is listed in the global address book.
- Parent Link: ParentLink is a communications tool that leverages the Internet and Voice Over IP technology to enable the Great Neck Public Schools to contact parents and staff with important announcements. With ParentLink, GNPS can send a message by voice, text, or e-mail to thousands of parents and staff in a very short period of time. The system can also allow parents to received automated attendance messages and subscribe to announcement groups in order to receive information about more routine matters such as school news or athletic team updates.
- Filtering: In compliance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act, the District employs technology protection measures that are designed to block access to visual depictions of pornography, obscenity and other material deemed illegal, inappropriate or harmful to minors. Web site traffic passes through this filter on all Internet-enabled computers. Separate filters are provided for students and staff to meet their respective educational, instructional, and professional needs while maintaining compliance with the law and this policy (from Great Neck Policy Manual).
- Staff Members will now have access to Uncategorized Web sites (web pages that our filter hasn't yet categorized), and time-based filtering will be introduced between the hours of 3:00 p.m. through 8:00 a.m. when some personal use of the Internet will be sanctioned. For example, shopping, banking, stock trading, and auction sites, which are blocked during the work day, will be open before and after school. Between the last revision three years ago and this one, twenty (20) Web site categories that were previously blocked will now be open for staff.

- VOIP Phone System: Great Neck Public Schools has implemented a Voice Over IP (VOIP) Phone System. Every classroom and office has a phone.

- MS Office - licensing allows one install per each teacher for home use
- Adobe - Creative Design Suite 6 – PhotoShop, Dreamweaver, InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator and Flash
- SMART Notebook - Software used in conjunction with the SMART Board. SMART Notebook collaborative learning software sets the standard for creating, teaching and managing interactive lessons within a single application. See Jennifer Scheinberg for licensing information.
- Castle Learning: Castle Learning Online supports classroom instruction through content-related review assignments, practice sessions and benchmark testing. Includes over 70,000 field-tested questions supported by defined vocabulary, reference tables, hints and reasons for correct answers in math, science, social studies, English and foreign languages. Core courses for grades 3-12 are correlated to standard curriculum.
